The End of Asphalt
brings together the recent works of Elizaveta Konovalova, mainly photographs and videos of objects’ “significant textures”. Unscathed, complete things rarely arouse Konovalova’s interest. She directs her camera at a piece of wall, soil, skin or other surfaces to fix its particular state: the texture, relief and grain, or the color and visual rhythms created by the material’s ruggedness, hollows, and stains. It is not about documenting the specific item’s material nature, but about bringing to light added texture as an important layer caused by alteration or damage.
