Adrien Couvrat’s paintings are mysterious and moving light surfaces. He manually striates acrylic resin, and paints rays of light above it in all directions, extending his early video installations. Indeed, visual interference gives the paintings a video screen-like quality. The colour vibrations invite the viewer to move in order to better perceive shapes and colours. The viewer’s movement - back and forth, rotation - creates an abstract ballet that can be projected onto the surface of Couvrat’s paintings: shapes and colors appear and disappear according to one’s position. The resulting image is the synthesis of all the viewer’s possible movements.

After graduating from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris and IRCAM, Adrien Couvrat started experimenting with painting, drawing, sound and video. In each medium, he explores optical movements, luminous transformations and the sensitive vibration of colors. In 2015, he participated to a four-month-exhibition at the Museum of Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and produced a monumental installation for Qingdao Sculpture Art Museum in Shandong. In 2016, he exhibited at Musee des Arts et Metiers, and in 2017 had a solo show at Villa « Le Lac » Le Corbusier in Switzerland. In 2023, he displays the monumental work Myriades at Franklin Azzi architecture studio, as part of the Nuit Blanche, Paris.
