Adrien Couvrat

Born in 1981. Lives and works Paris.

Adrien Couvrat’s paintings are mysterious and moving light surfaces. He striates manually acrylic resin, and paints above in all directions. Rays of light that carry on Adrien Couvrat’s video installations. An imperfect technique, which leads to visual interferences. The paintings are then close to video screens. The colour vibrations invite the viewer to move in order to better perceive forms and colours. First the viewer « thinks » about the movement, second he « experiments » the movement. Last he understands the artwork. The viewer’s movement – going and coming back, rotating – is an abstract ballet that can be projected onto the surface of Couvrat’s paintings: indeed forms and colours appear and disappear depending on the position of the viewer. The image results in the sum of all possible movements of the viewer.

Adrien Couvrat graduated from Paris Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 2008 and has a degree in spatialization with video programming in real time from IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique). In 2013, he was from part of a collective exhibition Derrière la couleur, along with Larry Bell at Galerie Maubert in Paris. In 2015, he participated to a four-month-exhibition at the Museum of Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and produced a monumental installation for Qingdao Sculpture Art Museum in Shandong. In 2016, he exhibited at Musee des Arts et Metiers, and in 2017 had a solo show at Villa Le Corbusier “Le Lac” in Switzerland.
